Hi everyone - welcome to our blog. We will be participating in a Global Village Volunteering trip to Ethiopia for the next 12 days, and will take you along on our journey with us....
Habitat NI has already helped serve more than 1,000 families through the building of new homes, the installation of eco stoves, lavatories and water pumps, bringing improved sanitation and clean water to entire communities. We will be working along with members of the team to help improve living conditions even more for these families through bulding homes.
Over the past few months we have attended many meetings and participated in numerous fundraising events - it is hard to believe the time for us to go is actually here. Receiving this image in an email this morning made everything very real. I know that this trip will be a real culture shock to most of us on the team, but it will be interesting to see how people live in different cultures in contrast to the western world that we live in. However, our main aim of this trip is to help. Help the community which we will be visiting by participating in building and maintenance tasks of basic houses that are being provided to them through Habitat, as well as interacting with the locals and trying to improve their quality of living conditions as much as we can.
I'm sure everyone is packed and ready for bed now - triple checking that they have their malaria tablets and passports!!!!!! Hopefully we will be able to keep updating each day :)
