Today we went down to the site and began putting rocks into the foundations we dug out yesterday. The rocks were very heavy so it was quite a long process. After this was complete the work began putting up the wooden frames of the house. We succeeded in getting the full frames put up of the house we had been working on yesterday - as well as finishing the digging and inserting the rocks into a second house. We were all surprised at how much work we were able to get done between us all within a day. We bonded even more with the locals and it was good to see everyone working together and communicating very well - everyone has been learning more words in Ethiopian - Eve can even count to 10 now.
The great thing about today was how encouraging the local people were to us... Even though some of the girls wouldn't be as strong at hammering in nails and carrying rocks - they still showed us how to do it properly and made sure that everyone was included and participating in the work. All in all it was a great day and we are looking forward to get back to working on the houses tomorrow. It is amazing how quick work can get done when everyone pitches in. Although it is winter time here today was hot - it was 28 degrees C at one stage.
